Jim is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, and he served as a field artillery officer in the US Army. He also has an MBA from the University of Akron. After leaving the Army, Jim joined the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, where he held a number of technical and management positions until he retired after 37 years of service, including a year and a half in Tokyo, Japan. Jim holds nine patents and is a past member of the American Society of Testing and Materials, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Tire Society. Jim and Pete Zeidner were friends for many years. Jim, his wife Carol, and their sons Dan and Chris, are all ardent supporters of Pedal with Pete. Jim was the co-chair of the Pedal with Pete Kent Event from 2015 through 2019. Jim is very active in the Kent community. In addition to his work with Pedal with Pete, Jim has held leadership positions with the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Kent Lions Club, Troup 253 and the Seneca District of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Ronald McDonald House of Akron. Jim and his wife Carol have two sons, Dan (Allison) and Chris (Ali), grandson Ethan and granddaughter Avery.
